Austrian architect Jakob Sprenger and designer Antonia Crespi have remodeled the restaurant of a boutique lodge in Gstaad, Switzerland, with bespoke furnishings and fittings.

Crespi and Sprenger wished to create “a up to date design rooted in Gstaad’s Alpine heritage” for the Monti restaurant at The Alpina Gstaad.

“Our goal was to contemplate each element of the design to evoke the distinctive spirit of Gstaad,” Sprenger advised Dezeen.

The duo created all the furnishings and fittings bespoke for the fantastic eating restaurant.

Amongst them are banquette seats upholstered with mohair and chairs perched on hand-carved “skis” in a playful reference to the alpine outside.

Partitions and ceilings are clad in reclaimed classic pine wooden, which was brushed and oiled by hand.

Metallic artisans bent sheets of bronze by hand and wove them collectively to create a collection of room dividers, held in place by slender bronze frames.

The designers paired the “forceful texture” of the woodwork and bronze screens with tender carpet flooring in complementary “light and toasty” hues.

The bespoke wool carpet was made in Denmark and options motifs of native natural world interwoven in contrasting thread.

Illustrations of foxes, deer, squirrels, grouses and alpine flowers, twigs of pine, nuts and alpine herbs cowl the carpet in an summary fashion impressed by the customary Swiss artwork of paper slicing, often called decoupage or Scherenschnitt.

Overhead lighting is supplied by way of chandeliers consisting of three concentric bronze rings holding 48 bell-shaped Murano glass shades.

The form and design of the desk are meant to replicate pure components from the encircling countryside, from the fluidity of the rivers to the rugged contours of mountains.
